Minnesota Hitmen

MN Hitmen Softball

The Hitmen softball team actually had the same origins as the broomball team. It all started with Pete Holstrom. He introduced the "gang of 5" to Bob and Billy, who played at Taft Park. That team grew to become Champps, playing in Richfield's Thursday night league. From there, the team moved to Dred Scott in Bloomington, where they have played for around ten years.

As with every softball team, the Hitmen have "changed their stripes." After Champps Richfield, the team was known as Captain Morgan and then the Southside Lawn Boys. From there, the team became known as the Minnesota Hitmen, an off-shoot of the broomball team. During its tenure, players have often been on both the broomball and softball team roster, a rarity these days in the world of competitive recreational sports.

Even though the 2009 season was a rebuilding year for the Hitmen, they finished well in their divisions and have continued to flourish in the off-season with potential for the 2010 season in their sights.
